Cheerleading doesn't score in football games.  The volume of the crowd doesn't score in basketball games.  One team doesn't play with nine people in soccer.  Figure skating doesn't score in ice hockey.  Yet this weekend, one year ago, the Bloomsburg swim teams ‘lost' their meets to Ithaca College, because of a diving team that Bloomsburg does not have.  When the swim teams departed off the bus, the scoreboard already read, "Ithaca 32 Bloomsburg 0."

This Saturday the Ithaca Bombers will travel to Bloomsburg University for a swim meet that involves only swimming.  In what will be a highly competitive meet, the Bloom Swim Teams are looking for as much support as they can get from their fellow students.  After last year's painful defeat the BUMS (Bloom University Men Swimming) are looking for revenge.  Captain David Mancinelli is still brewing from the last time the two teams met, "I've been looking forward to this meet all year to even the score with a real swim meet.  I'm sure both teams will be pumped up and ready to continue this rivalry." Currently the Bloom men's team is 2-1 and will attempt to give the Ithaca men their first loss. Last year's NCAA Qualifier Juan Castaneda and transfer Jeremy Frey, look to lead the men in the fly and individual events.  Kyle Weisenbach will lead the team in the 100 and 200 yard breaststrokes.  The Lady Huskies are 3-2 and will take on a strong opponent where the meet could come down to the final relay.  On the ladies side, Allie Reed and Sarah Grawe look to have another impressive showing in sprint freestyle and backstroke events.  Incoming freshmen, Madeline Barlow and Kelsey Brooker also look to pull the team along in butterfly events.  Kayla Weisenbach, Kyle's fine younger sister, will also help out in the freestyle events.

The meet is to take place at the Wojtylak Memorial Natatorium at the Nelson Field house on upper campus, Saturday at 2pm.  In addition to the swim meet, other athletic teams including Women's basketball and tennis will compete in entertaining relays for the fans.  Admission is free and all Bloomsburg students are encouraged to come watch and cheer on their favorite swimmers.  There are expected to be many close races and an exciting meet is promised to all those that show up.
