Both women's soccer intramural teams, Prestige Worldwide and FC Misfit, faced off in a game in which neither side had any previous wins, this being the third week of the season. They played six-on-six, soccer including a goalie, with modified soccer nets on a chilly Monday night at an upper campus field.
Since there were only 10 players total on the field of play, it opened up the game and allowed the players more time to be able make their moves. Prestige Worldwide scored first on a shot taken by Katie Noll early in the first half. Minutes later, despite good ball possession by FC Misfit, Stephanie Crawford added another goal for Prestige Worldwide as they went up 2-0.
The game was heavily represented by underclassmen students, but several upperclassmen participated and seemed to get just as much enjoyment out of it.
"It's a good place to blow some steam off, in a good way," said Chelsea Koch, a former two-year varsity player and a BU senior who last played intramurals during her freshman year. She decided to play again this semester after a fellow teammate, freshman Christie Ferguson who played with Koch in high school, motivated her to get back in the action.
Meanwhile, just before halftime, sophomore Megan Garner scored FC Misfit's first goal of the season, cutting the opponents' lead to just a goal.
In the second half, Prestige Worldwide quickly regained its momentum. This was due in part to sophomore Amber Weaver's goal, which extended their lead to 3-1. Subsequently, Ferguson responded with a breakaway goal for FC Misfit and shrunk the team's deficit back to one goal; as they trailed 3-2. Then from the right side, freshman Kristin Wessler knocked another goal in for FC Misfit and tied the game at 3-3.
With about 10 seconds left in the game, Wessler kicked the ball high over the fingertips of the opposing goalkeeper and everyone watched it smack against the crossbar, ending the match in a 3-3 draw.
