Look at the 2009-10 Bloomsburg men’s basketball roster and instantly one thing jumps out at you: Youth.  With the exception of three players, the Huskies entire roster is comprised of  sophomores and freshmen, giving the Huskies an abundance of young players contributing to the lineup. Coming off a 4-23 season, in which the Huskies finished last in the PSAC, Bloomsburg will look to their young guns to show improvement from last year’s disappointing campaign.

“We had the youngest team in the conference last year and going into games we knew our lack of experience was going to be a challenge," said head coach John Sanow when interviewed by sports information. "But our players have worked extremely hard in the offseason in the weight room and on the court and we are ready to show how improved we are."

Look at the Huskies lineup this year and you will see a lot of familiar faces.  Back for his senior season is Rueben Britt, who led the Huskies with 13.2 points per game last season.  Joining Britt in the backcourt will be a major contributor for the Huskies in sophomore Jesse Betar, who had a team leading 65 assists last year to go along with a 7.3 points per game average. Betar, will be counted on as the floor general for the Huskies, as he brings an immeasurable amount of leadership to the floor for Bloomsburg.  In addition to the killer ‘B’s (Betar and Britt), the Huskies have a third member of the backcourt  in Greg Elliot that will certainly be a key to the offense. Elliot is a transfer from Champlain College St. Lambert and sat out last year but will have many opportunities to score from the perimeter. Finally sophomore Trevon Johnson will give the Huskies some depth off the bench at the guard position, providing some offensive spark last season scoring 12.2 points per game.  Johnson will be an important player defensively for the Huskies, as he is one of the better on-ball defenders on the squad.

The frontcourt starters bring perhaps the greatest amount of potential to the Huskies.  At the two backcourt positions for Bloomsburg are sophomores Dan Hoover and Larry Webster. Both Hoover and Webster had a great freshmen year for the Huskies and look to bring dominance to the PSAC as one of the most promising big-man duos in the league. Last year Hoover had 7.5 points per game to go along with 5.3 rebounds, but the big man’s presence was felt under the basket, where his physical style of play set the tone inside. His running mate in the frontcourt, Webster, was able to get it done at both ends of the floor averaging 12.2 points per game to go along with 9.1 rebounds and 34 blocked shots. Webster, who collected five Freshman Player of the Week honors last  year will be the go to guy inside for the Huskies. The emergence of Hoover and Webster will be crucial to the success of the Huskies this year as they look tp prove the voters who voted them to finish last in the PSAC this year wrong. The Huskies open up the year November 14 at division I Binghamton, as the Huskies look for a youth movement to lead them to be a contender in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.
