Management fraud at companies such as Enron, WorldCom, Tyco, and Adelphia have wiped out tens of billions of dollars in investor accounts and pensions. As large as these losses are, it is only a portion of the more than $400 billion that the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners estimates U.S. organizations lose each year due to fraud.

The sheer magnitude of these losses highlights the need for people trained in fraud examination and forensic accounting. U.S. News & World Report calls this one of the 20 hot job tracks of the future. Unfortunately, most students never have the opportunity to learn about fraud examination.

By approving a Career Concentration in Fraud Examination, Bloomsburg University becomes one of the first universities in the country to offer this program of study. The interdisciplinary concentration consists of six classes: Introduction to Fraud Examination, Advanced Fraud Examination, Computer Forensics and Fraud Examination, Systems Security Management, Introduction to Criminal Justice, and White Collar Crime.

Students can begin the concentration as early as their sophomore year and could complete the concentration in as few as three semesters. Because the six courses in the concentration can also be used as Group B, General Education, or business electives, students may be able to complete the concentration with only one or two classes above their major degree requirements.

Students interested in a Career Concentration in Fraud Examination can contact Dr. Michael Blue (389-4519, blue@bloomu.edu), Dr. Nancy Coulmas (389-4755, ncoulmas@bloomu.edu), or Dr. Mike Shapeero (389-4913, mshapeer@bloomu.edu).
