Madden illustrates more than popularity

I am writing in response to the previous two letters about the [CGA] election. First, I want to say congratulations to A.J. Madden and his fellow ticket members.
This belly aching from Johanna Moss and her ticket members is getting old fast. This is almost as annoying as the controversy after the Florida Presidential Elections [sic].
I have had the honor and privilege of knowing and working with Madden for the past four years. When I was a freshman, we both ran for class president and vice president. After that we became fast friends and I have never been more impressed by someone as I was with Madden.
He has always worked hard for this campus and is involved in many college groups. He cares very much about the University, the students and the community as a whole.
Moss and Ryan Hinton both wrote that this turned into an ugly popularity contest. Well, in essence it is, but Madden's popularity is due to hard work and the people he has met by being on all of these committees. It was not like a high school popularity contest where "the coolest" wins. It was earned.
I can also say that, as a student, I had no idea who Moss was and what she stood for. She says she campaigned to those who live on campus and those who dine in the Commons. I am an upperclassman and an off-campus student and she never tried to reach me, my roommates or friends.
We are a bigger population than the students on campus. I voted for Madden, not only because he is a good friend, but because I know what he can and will do for our campus.
He stands his ground and fights to the death for a cause he believes in.
I believe that is why many people voted for him, not because The Voice printed an article favoring him, not because of popularity, but because of what he can do. He has worked extremely hard the past four years to get where he is now. I know what Madden stands for and I will support him in any election.
As for Moss and followers, grow up, move on and realize that there are more important things in life. Maybe even join a few more committees and you will also deserve the seat of CGA president!
