SLIPPERY ROCK — Returning from a 12-6 record during the 2001-02 season, Bloomsburg's men's tennis team blew away the competition with dominating victories this past weekend at Slippery Rock's dual meet. This being the team's first meet of the year, it has a good shot at bettering last season's record.

On Saturday the Huskies faced Slippery Rock, a team that it beat 9-0 last season. Saturday proved to be no different when the men came out with a victorious 9-0 win for the second straight year.

Singles competitors Mike McGrath, Mark Vellek and Brendan Miller all triumphed against their opponents with two 6-0, 6-0 sets. Out of the 72 singles games played Bloomsburg only lost eight.

Along with the several impressive wins in the singles division, the men's doubles squad also slaughtered all of the competition in its events. First doubles team Vellek and Kurt Caster conquered Slippery Rock's Steeh, Alex Slezak duo 8-2 while teammates Miller and Brian Bogus defeated its opposition, 8-1.

The strong outing continued when the team finished victorious against Edinboro, 8-1.

Leading the singles competition again, McGrath defeated Scott LeBaron, 6-0, 6-2. Vellek swept Edinboro's Travis Myler, 6-0, 6-0.

The only blemish on the Huskies' day came at the hands of Edinboro's Aelniek. After Mark Farnsworth took the first set, 6-4, Aelniek came back and won the next two sets, 6-2, 6-4.

In doubles action, the team of Bogus and Caster won with a notable 8-0 win.

Vellek, Miller and Brooke, McGrath beat their Edinboro opponents 8-1 and 8-2 respectively.

The team's current record is 2-0. The team is preparing for the ITA East Regionals held Oct. 5th through the 7th where they will look to improve on their record.
