The Men's Soccer season is beginning to wind down. On Saturday, the nationally ranked West Chester Golden Rams traveled to Sports Stadium to take on the struggling Huskies. The first half looked promising as BU out shot the Golden Rams 8-4 and Mike Jones put the Huskies on the scoreboard first. In the second half, WCU caught up with goals from Mike Pryor and Ricky Mucelli. Goalie Jon Keller took the loss, stopping seven WCU shots.
On Wednesday night, the hard times for BU finally became a positive. In a game against Millersville, postponed from Wednesday, the Huskies defeated the Marauders 3-1. Millersville got on the board first
with an unassisted goal from Jake Wooleyhan. However, it didn't take long for Bloom to answer back. Chris Tomarelli put a shot into the net off an assist from Jared Ferriera. From there, the men went on to dominate as John Brittingham and Dan Beshore teamed up to put the team out in front for good, 2-1. To wrap it up, with eleven minutes to go, Bryan Darby scored unassisted and Bloom finished the game with a 3-1 win. Keller was once again the Husky goalkeeper, but this time, he was on the winning side of the match as he stopped two Marauder shots.
Heading into their season finale, the team's record stands at 3-13-1 overall, 3-11-1 in the conference. They are second to last in the PSAC standings, only ahead of Kutztown who has a record of 2-12-1 in the conference and 2-16-1 overall. This season, they have fallen to four PSAC playoff bound teams: WCU, Lock Haven, Slippery Rock, and East Stroudsburg. This will mark the third consecutive year that the Huskies miss the postseason. Their last trip to the playoffs was in 2003, where they lost in the PSAC semifinals to California (PA).
On Saturday, Bloomsburg will have their final home game against Slippery Rock at Sports Stadium. Their last match up against the Rock was played on SRU's home turf and ended in a shutout loss. Fifty seven minutes into the game, the Rock's Jeremy Deighton scored, which turned out to be the game winner. Bloom had eight shots on goal and the Rock had seven. Travis Young and David Leindecker split time in goal, but Young was in net as the game ended. Both goalies made three saves apiece.
