Post season hope slips past Women's Soccer team

The women's soccer team has spent most of the season in a tight battle with three other conference teams for a play-off spot. Their post-season future came down to their next to last conference game on Saturday in their final home competition of the season. They were up against top eastern seed and second ranked team in the nation, West Chester; despite going into the game with a positive attitude, the Huskies lost the match-up 2-0. The two teams battled in harsh conditions, including cold temperatures and strong winds.

Lauren Hess, in her sophomore season as an offensive player, says that the Huskies played tough against the powerhouse team. "We were in the game mentally, but they used the wind more to their advantage than we did."

The Huskies had the advantage in the first half with the wind to their backs, and they had four shots on goal to the Golden Rams' three, but it was a scoreless 45 minutes. The tables turned after the halftime whistle when West Chester utilized the wind at their backs and offensively dominated with 16 shots on goal to Bloomsburg's three.

West Chester was quick to score two minutes into the second half, and sealed their win with another point with eight minutes left on the clock.

Coach Sandy Dickson says that although the Huskies did not capitalize in the first half with the wind advantage, she couldn't ask for more of an effort from her team. "We played a good game in tough conditions. We did well in the second half considering we were going against the wind. We tried to kick into the grass instead of up into the air, and we stuck to our game plan."

That was the second game back for freshman Aimee Bono since an injury from the Adelphi game at the end of September, and she had a shot on goal for the game. "It's great to have her back," says Coach Dickson. "It's nice having her out there with a spark for us, but she's unfortunately still hurting and sore."

Goal keeper Brittany Moses totaled nine saves for the game, while the West Chester goalie had 2.
