The Women's Swimming team defeated Mansfield University on Saturday, October 28, 114-69. They will be joining the Men's Swimming team on Saturday, November 11, as the Huskies hit the road to take on Ithaca.

The women's swim team kicked off their season on October 21, hosting the Bloomsburg Relays and winning the eight team event. A week later they trampled conference rival Mansfield 114-69.

Bloomsburg and California University of Pennsylvania finished one-two at the relays, with 588 and 534 points respectively. Millersville earned third place with 388 points. The Huskies won all five freestyle relays that they competed in that day (800, 500, 200, 1500, and 400), and they also won the 300 backstroke relay. They also won second place finishes in the 300 breaststroke, 400 medley, and the 400 medley 4x100 individual medley relays.

On the 28, Bloomsburg dominated the pool against Mansfield, winning nearly every event and earning 15 individual top three finishes, including two Husky sweeps. The first came in the 50 freestyle when Courtney Dean, Laura Jeffers and Liz Tesoro finished with times 26.08, 27.04, and 27.79. In the 200 butterfly, Stephanie Boccuti was first in 2:21.54; Amy Usciak was second in 2:21.58, and Lauren Sterkenberg was third in 2:26.79. There were four other first places from Jess Gribbin in the 1000 freestyle (11:35.94); Ashley Yelinek in the 200 freestyle (2:02.36); Sara Lengler in the 200 individual medley (2:20.22), and Diana Smith in the 100 freestyle (55.13). The relay of Lengler, Allie Reed, Jessica Stusnick, and Dean won the 200 medley in 1:57.42.

After a fourth place finish in the conference last year, the success of their season openers reflect a team ready to battle their way even higher in the PSAC. However, the conference includes Clarion and West Chester, teams who traditionally dominate the conference. Last season, Bloomsburg hoped to finish right behind these two powerhouses at the PSAC meet, but they were edged out by IUP by 89 points.

Teammates Dean and Yelinek say that this should not have happened last year, and they are sure Bloomsburg is capable of a top three finish this time around. Besides IUP, teammates they expect the Huskies to be competitive with are Shippensburg and California.
