On Tuesday, Nov. 6 the Bloomsburg men's basketball team will head to the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia for an exhibition game against Jay Wright and the Villanova Wildcats. This game was made possible by Vince Nicastro, a BU alumnus, and the current athletic director at Villanova.
In the past DI schools from the area have played DII schools. Last year Shippensburg University beat Penn State 67-61 in an exhibition match up. Coach John Sanow said that the Huskies were really looking forward to going there and playing against a Big East school. He also said the goal for the game was to play well both offensively and defensively, and "execute our system" and hopefully give them a chance to compete.
The Huskies have their work cut out for them on Tuesday but Coach Sanow came in last year and improved the teams overall record to 13-14 compared to the 6-21 teams the year before his arrival. Coach Sanow said that a large part of the success last season was the improvement of the work ethic on the team. This year the team hopes to reach the conference playoffs and fight for the championship under the leadership of the teams' seniors.
The huskies will use this game to jumpstart their season, gain experience against big time opponents and also it will help the recruitment of players from the Philadelphia area. The Bloomsburg Men's Basketball team will take along three players from the Philadelphia area including Marion "Buddy" Rose, Drew Jerry, and Adon Ela.
The Huskies are set to go and it should be an exciting event in the Wachovia Center.
A bus sponsored by CGA will leave Bloomsburg at 3 p.m. to take students to the game. The bus will cost $3 for Bloomsburg students and $5 for non-students. Sign up at the Information Desk in Kehr Union. Tickets for the game can be purchased in the Sports Information on the second floor of Waller for $20 dollars.
Sign up for the bus and pick up your tickets in the Sports Information Office and join the Huskies as they travel to the Wachovia Center on Tuesday.
