Shut up and play

I am, sadly, a Washington Redskins fan. I have argued with countless Eagles fans in this area for years and have eaten many of my words for my team's lack of success within the last decade. I have no excuse this week, no argument, no reasoning and no pity for my team. Squeaking by my Redskins were the juggernaut that is the New England Patriots, once against mowing down a team as if they were swatting a paralyzed fly on a kitchen counter. I am ashamed however on how some of the redskins handled their childlike attempt of competing with the Patriots. Specifically linebacker Randall Godfrey, who said in a post game interview that he "Said something to Belichick" after the game. Yes they were running up the score, and yes last time I checked this wasn't pee-wee football, no kids were left with their feelings hurt while a bigger better team beat them soundly. This is the NFL, never before have I seen so much debate over mercy on other teams. It is said that the Patriots are not respecting the game, I believe they are respecting the game more then any other team by playing it in near perfect fashion. So far we have never seen a team like this dominate the league, and of course we as fans and media writers have to find negatives about a team so good. Their flawless play has left us begging the question that they are too good and they need to tone it down a little. You've got to be kidding me. I see commercials where they portray football players as gladiators, warriors of the gridiron with a long standing tradition of being the toughest sport. Now another team is playing that well that people are whining for them to tone it down. Shut up and try to stop them. It's not like the Redskins are a bottom of the barrel team, speaking of which the winless Miami Dolphins scored more then Washington…21 points more. They have the 5th best defense in the league. It's childish for any sports writer or player to somehow spin this like it's the Patriots fault. I don't care about rumored unwritten rules, I don't care if they are up 77-0 in the third quarter and go for it on fourth and 22. If no one can stop them and this league is the ultimate when it comes to football then it is the other team's problems, not the Patriots. In my opinion they are respecting the game with play-station offense and veteran led smart skillful defense. Getting paid millions of dollars to play football is the dream of almost every kid growing up in America. Seeing other teams and players throwing hissy fits about bad they got spanked does not show the game respect. Again, I am a Washington Redskins fan and it pains me to see Tom Brady, who apparently took a summer vacation with Morpheus to the Matrix for training, tear my team apart. But enough of the talk that the Patriots are disrespecting the NFL by playing excellentof football. Every player and coach wishes they were as good as the Patriots are right now and should show them a little respect by at least trying to keep these games competitive. Speaking of which, the showdown this week will determine of the Patriots really are the class of the league or just better then everyone else except the Colts, who, last time I checked beat the Patriots when it mattered and own the title of Super Bowl Champion along with Lombardi Trophy.
