The Bloomsburg University women’s basketball team improved its record to 3-1 with an 85-62 win over Wilmington on Monday night.

Trailing 10-9 early in the first half, Lauren Ellis sparked a 10-2 Husky run to give Bloomsburg a 19-12 lead with just over nine minutes to play in the first half.

Wilmington countered, however, with an 11-3 run of its own to retake the lead, 23-22.

With just over six minutes to play in the first half, Bloomsburg’s Kayla Oxenrider connected on a jump shot to give the Huskies a 24-23 lead, which would not be relinquished.  The basket sparked a 12-1 Bloomsburg run late in the first half, giving the Huskies a 38-27 halftime lead.

Three minutes into the second half, Wilmington mounted a rally to pull within eight points, but would not get any closer because Bloomsburg had an answer for almost every Wilmington score.

Bloomsburg posted three players in double figures, with over half of the Huskies’ points coming from Kelsey Gallagher and Dana Wieller, who combined for 43 of Bloomsburg’s 85 points.

Gallagher led the way for the Huskies, shooting 8-14 from the field and 5-5 from the line for 23 points. Gallagher also had nine rebounds in the contest. Wieller added 20 points, and Kayla Oxenrider scored 13 for the Huskies.

After shooting 5-8 from the free throw line in the first half, Bloomsburg sunk 11-12 in the second half.  The Huskies shot 7-26 from the three-point line, and shot 42.9 percent from the floor.

The Huskies went 1-1 at the Nyack Invitational the weekend before Thanksgiving Recess, losing 80-79 on a buzzer beater to Dominican.  Bloomsburg bounced back the next day with an 80-72 overtime win, led by Wieller’s game high 29 points.

In their next game, the Huskies host Penn State-Schuylkill on December 9th.
