Last Saturday, Bloomsburg University's women's lacrosse team defeated Molloy with a final score of 15-7 at the Sports Stadium. Then on Monday, the Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team defeated Millersville University in a home game. The final score of the game was 17-5. The two leading scorers of the game were senior Tia Mazzie and sophomore Samantha King. Mazzie and King both scored an impressive five goals each. King notes that she was able to score those goals on account of her team. She states, "Without their passes none of my goals would have even went in." Throughout the game on Monday, the BU lacrosse team played at a high level of intensity.

Defensively, the Huskies played a tight man to man defense which explains why Millersville only put the ball into the net five times. Offensively, King explains, "offense's speed, footwork, and quick transition helped us to penetrate and beat Millersville's defense." These techniques explain how the Huskies were able to dominate throughout the game on Monday.

In the first half, King scored first within minutes of the beginning of game with an assist from senior Kimberly Springman. King scored again shortly after her first goal to bring the score to 2-0. The score of 2-0 did not last very long as an assist from Springman, led to freshman Lyndsey Babilon netting a goal to bring the score to 3-0. The Millersville Marauders responded to the deficit by scoring three goals to tie the score. However, the Huskies were able to break through Millersville's defense and score three more goals to go up 6-3 at half time.

During half time, the Huskies recharged and at the mark of the second half they came out stronger than they did in the first half. King comments on this change of play stating, "We struggled at the beginning of the game to get a rhythm going." She continues to say, "It wasn't until the second half when we started using our plays that our lead grew."

In the beginning of the second half, Mazzie initially scored twice and then Springman scored to advance the Huskies' lead even more. Mazzie followed up the goal scored by Springman with two more goals to bring the score to 11-3.

Although having acquired such a big lead, the team remained focused, played good defense, and maintained intensity. Senior co-captains Springman and Kelsey Schwan comment on their team's persistence stating, "One of our main goals for our team is to play intense for a full 60 minutes, while sometime we don't always accomplish this goal, it's something we always strive to do."

Since the Huskies held a large lead throughout the game, it allowed them to implement new plays and strategies. Springman and Schwan explain stating, "We as a team don't look at it as crushing a team." They continue to say, "We look at it as an opportunity to better ourselves for our games in the future." The lacrosse team hosts a game against West Chester University today at 4 p.m. This game will be another opportunity for the Bloomsburg women's lacrosse team to improve as a team.
