The Bloomsburg University women's basketball team lost 71-61 to Cheyney on Monday night at Nelson Fieldhouse.
Originally scheduled for Saturday, February 6, the game was postponed twice due to the massive amounts of snow that fell across the state.
Cheyney jumped out to an early lead, and held onto the lead for almost the entire first half. Bloomsburg faced a nine point deficit halfway through the first, but battled back to take a one point halftime lead on a layup with six seconds left by Jen Dervarics. The layup gave Bloomsburg its first lead of the game.
In the second half, Bloomsburg extended its lead to as many as nine at one point, before Cheyney went on a run of its own to take a 56-47 lead with just under seven minutes to play. The Huskies tried to come back from the deficit, but would only get to within seven points for the rest of the game.
Freshman Dana Wieller was the highscorer for the Huskies, scoring 22 points. Sophomore Kelsey Gallagher pulled down a career high 13 rebounds and added 21 points of her own.
Freshman Kayla Oxenrider was named PSAC-East Freshman of the Week for last week for her 19 point performance in Bloomsburg's win over Mansfield. She scored five points versus Cheyney.
The Huskies play again tonight at East Stroudsburg. The game was originally scheduled for Wednesday night, but was postponed due to the winter storm.
