Bloomsburg University's women's lacrosse team defeated East Stroudsburg University with a final score of 13-5 on Tuesday.

ESU scored first on a free position shot about a minute and a half into the game. On the second draw, ESU gained control of the ball, but eventually lost the ball on a turnover. The Huskies picked up the ground ball and cradled it to the net, yet the Huskies' bad passes led to a turnover. Freshman Samantha Mazzie assisted by sophomore Allie Kakareka, then found the back of the net, scoring the first goal, to tie the game.

At the 13:59 mark, Bloomsburg scored again when sophomore Lindsay Kupferschmidt scored on a free position shot after being fouled by an ESU player. After calling a time out, ESU came back and scored again. At that point, the game was tied, and it would be the last time the teams would be tied during the game.

Soon after ESU scored, the Huskies picked up momentum. Coach Leah Carr stated "The girls worked as a team, rather than individuals the entire game." By using teamwork and hustle, Bloomsburg went on to score four more goals in the first half. Kakareka began the run to give Bloomsburg a one goal lead.

The Huskies scored again when freshman Natalie Draham found the net. She was assisted by junior Tia Mazzie. In response, ESU scored again, only trailing behind by one goal. However, Bloomsburg pushed through ESU's defense to score two more goals before the end of the first half, yielding a score of 6-3 in Bloom's favor.

The Huskies came out ready to play at the start of the second period. Carr said "The girls came out the second half and took everything away from ESU." She continued to say "Transition from the first to second half was the intensity of play. The girls picked up their intensity."

BU won control of the draw and after two failed shots on goal, they retrieved the ball on a turnover and scored. Kakareka scored again within minutes of the second half beginning, assisted by senior Kim Springman. Sophomore teammate Samantha King scored next, to bring the score to 8-3. Bloomsburg went on to score three more consecutive goals. ESU broke the scoring streak at the 21:07 mark, which was the first goal ESU scored in the second half. As the game progressed, BU increased their speed, making tighter passes and quick cuts in and out of the circle. The Huskies' playing created a seemingly cause and effect relationship.

At the 20:40 mark, Tia Mazzie scored on an assist by Kakareka. BU won the ensuing draw but then lost the ball. They eventually received the ball again after ESU committed a turnover. King scored again with an assist by freshman Kelsey Metzler. ESU scored one final time at the 16:59 mark.

For the remainder of the game, Bloomsburg's defense, along with the goalie, prevented any more shots from going into the net. Carr commented on goalkeeper freshman Shelby Iezzi saying "She's a great goalkeeper and all of the girls started to feed off of her performance."

Offensively, the Huskies moved the ball around, using the open spaces of the field to penetrate ESU's defense. This tactic worked since BU took many shots on goal. The games' final score was 13-5, Bloomsburg.

Carr commented on her team's victorious performance stating "We took control of the game mid way through the first half and never stopped after that point."

The Huskies play again this Saturday at Slippery Rock.
