The Husky women were unable to grab a firm hold of Slippery Rock as they not-so-ironically slipped and fell to The Rock in a 5-2 defeat.

A strong wind blew about upper campus as the Huskies took to the courts. The sun shone directly from above and came down upon the players backs as they played their hardest in the PSAC Championships. The women were up first, and while Kristen Bonito and Katie Hasyn battled it out at number two doubles, the other pairs came up short. Hasyn and Bonito struggled, but were able to post a 9-7 win.

"It was a tight match, and we did what we had to do, but it wasn't enough overall," Hasyn said. "We need to stay tough and fight to stay out longer."

The doubles win would not be enough to spur the rest of the team to victory, as the women dropped three of their four counted singles matches. Since the semi-finals were a first to five, two of the singles matches were left unfinished. Andrea Malastesta snatched an almost easy win with a score of 6-1, 6-1.

"We will get them next time!" said Laura Sullivan, who played second singles and third doubles.

Slippery Rock then advanced to the finals playing for first while the disappointed Bloomsburg University women left the courts and entered the stands to cheer for their male counterparts.

The men played vigorously. The day's heat was at its high point as the Huskies growled viciously against the Lakers. It was unfortunate however, that the Huskies bite was not as strong as their growl, and the Lakers eventually cooled and washed BU away in a long and heart wrenching 5-4 victory.

In doubles, the Huskies had little trouble as they cleared the way for the singles matches posting wins on all three posts. Up 3-0 as they went into singles play, the Huskies played hard but lost first, third, and fifth singles. These wins tied it up at 3-3 in a first to five series.

Mark Schroeder was a beacon of hope as he came back from a first set loss. In a gut-wrenching victory, his points helped put the Huskies above Mercyhurst 4-3.

It was then up to Ricky Dove and Alan Hummel who were each wrapped up in three-set thrillers. The day seemed to melt away in the midst of their long-endured matches. In the end, Dove and Hummel both fell. There wasn't much mercy given by the Mercyhurst Lakers, who along with The Rock pushed Bloomsburg University to fight for third in the PSAC Championship.

On Saturday, both men and women came out onto the courts with their heads held high. The women were set to play against Kutztown who they had defeated earlier in the season. As they did once before, they did again. History repeated itself as the Husky women slobbered all over the Golden Bears and nabbed third place with a 6-2 victory.

Millersville was BU men's target on Saturday, and like earlier this month, the Huskies did away with the Marauders. The men looted five wins to an overall 5-2 victory.

California University of Pennsylvania took the championship for the women, and Kutztown mauled Mercyhurst for their championship win.

Despite having placed third, Bloomsburg University players were able to achieve All-PSAC awards for the entire 2010 season. Dove and Fernando Perez won it for the men, both posting winning records at numbers one and two singles play. Dove went 17-10 for the season, while Perez went 14-6. Hasyn, Laura Sullivan and Bonito all received the award for the women.

Bloomsburg University awaits word on whether or not they will be eligible to participate in the NCAA Championship.
