Bloomsburg University's women's lacrosse team has added two more wins to their record this season. On Saturday, the Huskies annihilated Slippery Rock 20-7. Then again on Monday, the Huskies defeated Millersville University 20-6.
During the game on Saturday, BU's offense kept constant pressure on Slippery Rock's defense. Offensively, the Huskies moved the ball around, using the open spaces of the field to penetrate the defense, allowing BU to score at a non-stop pace. The Huskies played strong defense, as well. Constant man to man defense accounted for why Slippery Rock was only able to net 7 goals.
The Huskies came out ready to play at the start of the first period. After winning control of the ball, BU was able to cradle the ball down the field and score when sophomore Samantha King found the back of the net. Having only a one point led, Slippery Rock had no trouble catching up. Right after the Huskies first goal, Slippery Rock scored two goals to give them the 2-1 lead. Soon after, the Huskies made a transition. They increased their intensity of play which caused a surplus in the score. BU went on to score eight consecutive goals. Just shy of the half way point of the first period, BU was in the lead 9-2. Slippery Rock was able to stop BU's scoring streak by scoring again. But this outcome only motivated the Huskies to score even more. During the second half, BU increased their speed, made tighter passes, and quick cuts in and out of the circle. As the game progressed, BU went on to score another five more consecutive goals. At the end of the game, the final score of 20 to 7 granted Bloomsburg another win to their record.
On Monday, Bloomsburg won again, by defeating Millersville University 20-6. The leading scorer of the game was sophomore Allie Kakareka who scored six goals during the game. The Huskies scored first almost a minute into play, sophomore Samantha King scored. Soon after, Kakareka scored her first goals of the game. At the midway point in the first half, Bloomsburg had kept the Marauders off the board while scoring eight of their own. Before halftime however, Millersville scored three goals.
Yet, the Huskies scored too, bringing the score at halftime to 11-3. In the second half, the Huskies kept up their momentum and intensity. More goals came from junior Tia Mazzie and sophomore Lindsay Kupferschmidt. Bloomsburg continues their season today at 4:00 against West Chester, the only team the Huskies trail in the PSAC East standings.
