The 2010-2011 cheerleading team was revealed after an intense weekend of tryouts. On March 26, 61 young ladies came to tryout for the upcoming season. After a long first day of tryouts, only 40 girls returned for the second day. One cheer, one dance, two jumps, 25 pushups and gymnastics were all judged and evaluated on skill and technique. Two new captains, who were previously chosen, left a total of 18 new spots available. The final team included 11 returnees and nine new cheerleaders.
Next year's captains will be Jessica Picciotti and Carly Smith. The remaining 18 girls includes: Ali Larson, Ally Hanna, Ashley Slodysko, Britni Nowakawski, Caitlin Mehle, Jessica Gombar, Jordan Davidson, Katie Rhodes, Kelsey Wetherhold, Kristie Driadon, Kristie Robinson, Mandy Yaple, Morgan Bonisese, Nicole Erdman, Shetia Richardson, Tanya Pecorari, Tara Beck and Tessa Varias.
"I am really excited about the upcoming season," said Picciotti, co-captain of the team. "We have high expectations for the new squad and from what we have seen, they are not out of reach. Carly and I have big shoes to fill following our previous captain Kaitlyn Schiccatano. We have a fun, dedicated group of girls and I can't wait to start the season!"
The team first appeared together on April 23 for the annual spring football game, selling baked goods as their first fundraiser.
One of the newcomers to the team, Jordan Davidson said, "This year's new squad is filled with a lot of great talent. We are all really excited for the new season to start so we can support BU and show everyone our new team!"
This upcoming Sunday, the girls will be hosting a carwash at the AutoZone starting at 9:30 a.m. After a three month separation, the team will return back to the fall semester a week before classes start for preseason and to prepare for the first football game in August. The team will cheer together through football and both boys and girls basketball seasons. The first home football game is scheduled for September 11 against Clarion University.
