Bloomsburg University's women's lacrosse team lost to West Chester University with a final score of 13-10 at the Sports Stadium on Thursday. West Chester is the sixth-ranked team in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East.
At the start of the game, the Golden Rams scored three seemingly simultaneous goals. The Huskies stayed focused while they continued to play tough defense. Then sophomore Allie Kakareka scored BU's first goal of the game at the 20:08 mark. At this point, the Huskies only trailed by two goals: However, West Chester persevered through the Huskies' defense by scoring three more consecutive goals.
BU added another point to the scoreboard when freshman Samantha Mazzie scored at the 7:39 mark to bring the score to 6-2 West Chester. Following Mazzie's goal, West Chester found the net and scored again. In response, the Huskies scored two more goals, the first of which Kakareka scored, and the second by senior Kim Springman. Before the end of the first half, the Rams scored again, to bring the score to 8-4 West Chester.
During half time, the Huskies recharged, and at the mark of the second half they came out strong and ready to play. Senior Tia Mazzie and freshman Maggie Canavan each scored goals to bring the Huskies within two. However, the Golden Rams went on to score four goals in response. Although the Huskies would score four more times before the end of the game, it would not be enough to beat West Chester.
Then on Sunday, the Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team defeated Bentley University at the Sports Stadium in double overtime. Throughout the game, the BU lacrosse team played at a high level of intensity. Defensively, the Huskies played a tight man-to- man defense. Offensively, the Huskies used speed, tight passes, and quick cuts to break through the defense.
Within minutes of play in the first half, Kakareka found the net. Bentley would go on to score seven goals during the first half which ended in a 7-7 tie. In the second half, Kakareka found the net two more times. Bentley quickly scored again to regain the lead at 10-9.
Later, when sophomore Samantha King received a free position shot, she took advantage of the opportunity and scored to tie the game. Then, freshman Monica Novielli scored to give the Huskies the lead. However, Bentley would go on to tie the game at 11-11 at the end of the second half, sending the game into overtime. The game then extended into double overtime, where Kakareka rose to the occasion yet again, scoring the game-winning tally
